6th May 2013 – Day One in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

So the three lovely ladies that I have met through instagram was really spontaneous and we went on to book on a trip to Ho Chi Minh City to rough it out (pretty much), but it was a pity that some family matters cropped up for Gwen and we really wished that we had her through our entire trip!

Jolene and I headed to our Eden Saigon Hotel to unload our luggage before we start to explore this foreign city. What was supposed to be a ten minutes walk to Bến Thành market became thirty minutes because of insane traffic that we were trying to figure out. What left me in shock was this lady who crossed the road “like a boss” much faster than us – and that she was wheelchair bound. Could barely believe what I saw. Bought some street food to try, then we headed to L’usine at Le Loi for our first cafe hopping destination – the food wasn’t too bad but the ambience was definitely the best of all the cafes we have visited through our stay. Had a really amazing dish of goodness called Bến Thành market, and it was an amazing feeling sitting along with the locals and enjoying this lightly savory (the irony, yes) dish!

Headed to Cat Moc Spa later that evening, and it is definitely the top spa places to visit if you’re ever visiting the city. Pampered ourselves with the services – with me opting for a yogurt & sea salt body scrub, honey & grain body wrap and hot stone massage – which lasted for slightly less than 3 hrs for just <SGD$50! Dinner at this pho place which was recommended by one of the staff at Cat Moc, and it was different from the usual, yet really good too! We had such a good night sleep despite the slightly hard bed.

HCMC is a place with really noisy traffic, cheap and good food/spa! And weirdly, I am missing those self pampering days already.
